About Drake
Shuen-Huei Guan was born in Hsinchu City in Taiwan which is a small and beautiful island near the Chinese mainland. Where he grew is a small town just like what you can see in Mark Twain's Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It may be too tiny to be a town such that things seldom change and people there are familiar with each other, which is just like a big family.
He enrolled in the local elementary school and junior high school. Because of low population in this tiny town, the school was just an another place to have fun with friends. At there, he developed good behaviors of getting along with others. And fortunately, he was good in sports, writings, mathematics and others in the school. Actually, he was hot.
He had his own computer before enrolling in the junior high school and started to learn programming immediately. During the senior high school, he participated the club, Computer Software and Design Club (CSDC), and served as chiefhman in the second year. In that time, he learned QuickBasic, C/C++, Pascal and Assembly and programmed his first own graphical game like Windows Mine Sweeper. In the 1994 Science Fair held by National Taiwan Science Education Center, he got a local award by an animation editing tools.
In his undergraduate life of Computer Science and Information Engineering (CSIE.NTU) in the National Taiwan University (NTU), his activities about computer science got higher. Organizing a feather of gathering for studying algorithms, tooking a part-time job in the Computer and Information Networking Center (CINC) of NTU, participating in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM ICPC) three times, participating the 1st Chinese Game Design Contest, tooking a part-time programming job in the InterServe and etc. In that brilliant collegiate time, he got many awards and records.
He loved to cooperate with others. He liked to organize a team and served as a leader to guide and help cooperative members because he enjoyed facing challenges and learning new things. He also liked to support others. Through several experiences of teamwork, he developed good behaviors and got dependence and trust from others. The biggest team he participated was about 20 people. He succeeded by means of good teamwork.
In his last year of undergraduate, he met professor I-Pen Lin who was the chiefman of the CINC, NTU. A couple of undergraduates and him were gathered by professor Lin to form a game studio. Professor Lin did them a big favor and brodened their horizons by introducing many entertainment companies and people. After, he decided to devote himself to entertainment industry.
He was taking graduate program in CSIE, NTU and his major was Computer Graphics. He spent a lot of time studying Non-Photorealistic Rendering (NPR), Level-Of-Detail (LOD), real-time techniques. He chose to follow Ph.D. Ding-Yun Chen's research, 3D Model Retrieval System as his master thesis. His academic goal was to have publications in ACM SIGGRAPH.
In January 2005, he started his first work in DigimAx Inc. which aimed to become a productive 3D animation/film company in Taiwan. It is hard to tell what he would do there, but let's have our fingers crossed :)
